Bertie’s is like no other whisky bar. Visitors are invited to lose themselves in a labyrinth of hundreds of whisky bottles, arranged like books on shelves by flavour profile – Fragrant, Fruity, Rich and Smoky – and lit by amber lamps and the flickering light of the fireplace. Simply sit and relax with a dram or wander and browse with the guidance of the Fife Arms whisky experts.

For one hundred years, generations of the Gordon family have carefully laid down stocks of whisky for special occasions and personal enjoyment. This collection has become known as the House of Hazelwood, named after the family’s Dufftown home – Hazelwood House. Spanning seven decades and every corner of Scotland, the diverse whiskies held in cask tell stories of remarkable places, lost ways of working, first casks, last casks, and the ambitions and achievements of several lifetimes – none of which will be repeated again.
In this rare opportunity to experience these exceptional whiskies, the Bertie’s team will guide a bespoke tasting which is carefully curated according to individual tastes and interests.
Bertie’s was designed by Russell Sage Studio, the team responsible for the interiors of the Fife Arms as a whole. Russell explains that discovering Bertie’s is “like entering an alchemist’s shop, shelves burgeoning with tinctures – with a library of beautifully illuminated whisky bottles which in turn cast an amber glow around the room and its guests.”
One of the most striking features of Bertie’s interior design is the incredible lighting, conceived so the room is always dramatic, intimate and sumptuous. Later in the evening, the lights turn to a smouldering red, as the ambience becomes ever more relaxed. There are even uplighters inlaid in the cocktail tables, so the whisky glimmers as it is poured into the glasses.
