From Royal Suites dedicated to the monarchs who knew and loved Braemar, to Victoriana Suites inspired by the art and innovation of the Victorian age, every sumptuous suite at the Fife Arms is an imaginative blend of traditional Scottish and avant-garde design.
The Royal Suites are richly furnished with antiques, artworks and objects connected to some of Braemar’s most noble visitors. Commanding views over the surrounding Highland landscape, the suites also feature freestanding baths and separate sitting rooms.
Paying homage to the hotel’s heritage as a 19th-century coaching inn, the Victoriana Suites are decorated with patterned period wallpaper and paintings by leading artists of the Victorian age. With copper tubs and separate sitting rooms, each suite enjoys beautiful views over Braemar the Highlands.
The four Family Suites at the Fife Arms are created by combining two rooms or suites with adjoining doors, creating a spacious retreat which is perfect for a comfortable family stay in the Scottish Highlands.
The rooms in the Fife Arms are inspired by the rich cultural history and natural landscapes of Scotland. The Scottish Culture rooms explore stories of leading writers, thinkers, and scientists, while the Nature & Poetry and cosy Croft Rooms are inspired by the landscapes and heritage of the Cairngorms.
From literature and astronomy to engineering and global exploration, Scotland has produced leading figures in the sciences, humanities, and arts. Their stories have inspired the Scottish Culture Rooms that are situated throughout the hotel, each one home to a unique blend of antiques, artworks, and curiosities.
The grandeur of Scotland’s natural world has inspired countless writers and poets. The Nature & Poetry Rooms feature artworks and objects crafted from natural materials, including heather, horn and tweed, which are complemented by beautiful wooden headboards carved with words by Scottish poets.
Inspired by a traditional Scottish croft house, the hotel’s cosy Croft Rooms include traditional cabin beds that are spacious for one or snug for two. Each bed has been hand-painted by artists, featuring scenes of the surrounding Scottish landscape and the Highland cows, pheasants, and stags which roam its hills and glens.
Art and artisans lie at the heart of the Fife Arms. Brimming with creativity, the Artist’s Studio is for all those with artistic inclinations. Inspired by the Bloomsbury Group and the interiors of Charleston House, the room was devised and art-directed by Neil Wenman, partner at Hauser & Wirth.
The Artist’s Studio is a transportative retreat which pays homage to the Bloomsbury Group and, in particular, the work of its member Duncan Grant, who was born nearby in Aviemore. The walls, doors, and furniture have all been transformed into canvases for artistic expression, from the hand-painted woodwork in the bathroom to the cabin bed, while paint splashes and artists’ ephemera create the immersive atmosphere of a working studio.
Hidden behind a trompe-l’œil door and akin to the nest of an exotic bird, our ‘secret’ room pays homage to Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel. While in Scotland, Chanel fell in love with tweeds, Fair Isle knits, and quilted fabrics. These textiles are woven throughout the soft furnishings in the room, complemented by luxurious influences drawn from her 31 Rue Cambon apartment in Paris.
Chanel’s relationship with the Highlands began in 1925, when she met and embarked upon an affair with Hugh ‘Bendor’ Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster, who gifted her a mansion in Sutherland. Known for her dislike of doors and her placing of screens in front of them in the hope that her guests might forget to leave, this unique room includes Scottish chinoiserie painted panels, Art Deco influences, and a freestanding copper bath within the room itself.
