Distilling Heritage

Whether tasted by those exploring the Highlands for the first time or a dedicated collector, the Highlands’ unique climate and deep-rooted distilling heritage create whiskies with unmistakable depth and personality. Read on to discover the three specially produced Fife Arms Scotch whiskies, with detailed tasting notes and profiles from Tom Addy, the Bertie’s Bar whisky specialist.

The Newest Addition

Starting with the newest edition released in 2025, the Fife Arms 12-year-old ‘Autumn’s Gift – Harvest Spirit’ Scotch Whisky. This was a limited release of 178 bottles, from a single first-fill American Hogshead cask, making this a fantastic gift for whisky connoisseurs and lovers of the finer things.

"On the nose, it is reminiscent of soft wind on a dry harvest morning, and candied lemon peel sits alongside subtle mountain thyme. The palate - citrus notes deepen to sherbet or lemon icing. A whisper of malt evokes memories of school dinner sponge cake, with a warming, lingering finish leaving more herbal notes."

A Ruby Red Glow

Next is the Fife Arms 14 year old ‘Winter’s Dram‘, the first single cask Scotch Whisky with a ruby red glow from a second-fill ex-sherry cask. This whisky was aged and bottled at the acclaimed Dailuaine distillery, just north of Braemar. Complete with a grey felt and red leather holder designed by Bill Amberg, handmarked with the bottle’s unique number, it makes for a wonderful Christmas gift for whisky lovers.

"The nose has notes of beeswax-rubbed bridle leather under a soft clove spice. The spice develops on the palate, adding to dried red fruit and candied orange, growing to a soft warm glow of Christmas mincemeat. A classic winter warmer, a hug of a dram, perfect for an open fire and a coorie in after a day on the hill."

The Blended Malt

Finally, it is the hotels first ever whisky, the Fife Arms Blended Malt, which was commissioned in celebration of the opening of Bertie’s Whisky Bar. A five year old blend of malts from across Scotland, it is a glowing ember elixir evocative of the Victorian heydays of the Fife Arms. Suitable for casual tipple lovers and Scotch whisky lovers alike.

"On the nose, it reminds you of an antique writing desk - old wood, leather and graphite, gently wrapped in a soft, sweet pipe smoke. The palate, a burst of dark fruit richness, river side brambles, and pine wood blueberries, builds on a bedrock of malty depth. A great whisky and a champion of versatility - ideal for breakfast porridge, in a hip flask on the hill and to toast the end of a day well done."
